P83-Million Worth of Smuggled Rice Confiscated in Cebu by the BOC

Former PDEA Director and the present Bureau of Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña showed to the media the sacks of rice inside one of the 18 cargo containers opened at the Cebu International Port. Fourteen of the said shipment contained smuggled rice while the other four contained 

According to the BOC they found at least 7,000 sacks of smuggled rice in 14 of the 71 cargo containers from China which authorities from the BOC suspect were misdeclared.


After the contrabands were confiscated by the BOC at the Port of Cebu, Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña ordered the cancellation of Manila-based consignees Seven Myth Marketing and Rainbow Horizons Enterprises’ importation accreditation. The Bureau will also cancel the license of the Cebu-based broker who facilitated the shipment.


Commissioner Lapeña also revealed that base on what they found, the smuggled rice is worth P83 million.


The cargo containers  in Cebu on separate dates in five vessels. The first set of cargo containers was unloaded on Nov. 27, 29 and 30 while the second set was unloaded last December 3, 2017.
