For people commenting that they should not have done the change of leadership on the day of SONA you guys are really clueless of the inner workings of congress.
First off SONA Day is the first day of a session.
It is like the first day of class where we elect our class officers. Second it is so damn hard to get a quorum in any given day so the best day for election is the day of SONA where most congressmen are present.
Third delaying it even for a day will make it difficult to stage specially when a sitting Speaker is determined to cling to his post which is evident based on how things transpired.
Lastly Alvarez knows that getting and holding the speakership is a numbers game. When he was shown that there were already more than a majority that were in favor of a change of leadership he should have graciously stepped aside like what Koko did. Instead he had to resort to petty tactics like adjourning the session earlier without the presence of most congressmen since session was suspended for lunch and adjourning it when there were objections. He also instructed his people to run off with the mace and shut down the sound system. So if you want to point fingers blame him and his people for all the brouhaha
