Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Friday expressed no doubt that former President Benigno Aquino III and former Health Secretary Janette Garin meant well when they ordered the purchase of the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine from French-company Sanofi-Pasteur.
“They meant well. I have no doubt that they did mean well. The President and the department head were guided based on the feedback and from the documentary evidence,” Duque said in a briefing in Malacañang.
He added that it would be up to the former officials to clarify the several issues in anti-dengue immunization program using the controversial vaccine amid plans to investigate the mess that affected over 800,000 children.
“They were the ones who made the very vital decision to procure the vaccines and the circumstances around that decision [was] made [was] something that I really am not privy to. I just have to await what their testimonies will be,” Duque said.
“It will be good for everyone to come forward and to say his or her piece and to explain. Otherwise, there will be too many speculations,”
