MUST WATCH: Mass protest vs Duterte administration set on September 21

A huge protest to be held at Luneta is being organized by the group Movement Against Tyranny against the Duterte administration on September 21; coinciding with the anniversary of the declaration of martial law under Marcos dictatorship.

According to conveners of the group, the killings under the anti-illegal drugs campaign of the government are too much.

They also cited the President’s sensitivity to criticism and his subsequent attack against the Supreme Court, Commission on Human Rights and Ombudsman.

“Wala na kasing respeto sa life, wala nang respeto sa tao, wala nang respeto sa katotohanan. Kaya kailangan nakikita namin na talagang i-mobilize ang mga tao (There is no longer respect for life, no respect for people, no respect for the truth. We believe that it is imperative to mobilize the people),” said Movement Against Tyranny co-convenor, Mary John Mananzan.

Bayan Muna / Movement Against Tyranny co-convenor, Atty. Neri Colmenares added, “Dapat may boses nang lumabas para sabihin sa administrasyong Duterte na (A voice should stand out and tell the Duterte administration that ) we’ve had enough of these killings, attacks against institutions. This intolerance sa (with) dissent at iba pang mga issue sa ilalim ng administrasyong Duterte (and other issues under the Duterte administration).”

The group has noted similarities between current happenings and the events that happened during Marcos’ regime.

“Sinabi na dati na never again to martial law at nakikita natin na mayroong nagsisimula po ulit na mga senyas nitong panahon ng martial law (It’s been said before, ‘never again to martial law’ but we are seeing signs of resurgence based on today’s martial law) ” PROJUST / Movement Against Tyranny co-convenor, Dr. Joshua San Pedro.

Another thing the group finds alarming is Duterte’s blatant admiration for the former dictator that he even approved the latter’s burial at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery), and considered talks of compromise with the Marcos family’s concerning their ill-gotten wealth.
